Olympics & World Cup TV Sports Producers Lead New NFTS Course

The NFTS is delighted to announce that two of the UK's most senior sports television producers are to lead the NFTS’ new Sports Production diploma, which starts in January 2016. Tom Lewis and Chris Downham have been involved in bringing the Olympics and World Cup football and cricket TV coverage to our screens as well as producing popular television series.

Chris Downham is a producer with over 25 years experience in the sports television industry. Most recently he was series producer of the BBC Football League Show, senior features producer at 2014 FIFA World Cup, Brazil andsenior producer of UEFA Euro 2016 Qualifiers, Highlights. Formerly Head of Programming at CSI Sports, Chris was responsible for all international distribution of FA Cup, England and Football League content. He was also executive producer of a range of programming including ATP World Tour Uncovered, Ralph Lauren Legends Clinic and Soccer AM’s annual DVD’s featuring Tim Lovejoy and producer/director on Channel 4 documentaries – Wake Up England and No One Likes Us-We Don’t Care.

Tom Lewis has been in the sports television industry for almost thirty years. In that time, he has filmed in around forty countries, covering events as varied as football in China, cricket in Fiji and mountain biking in South Africa, as well as working at Olympics and World Cups. He has made several documentaries and feature programme and was, for seven years, the producer of the weekly show FIFA Futbol Mundial.

The NFTS’ **NEW** Sports Production diploma is a unique course delivered in partnership with IMG, the world’s largest independent sports producers. It will equip students with the editorial skills required to produce sports and live events coverage, highlights content and other material. It includes an internship at IMG's stat-of-the-art studios where students will get the chance to work on live sports events. IMG It has major relationships with broadcasters including the BBC for the Football League show, snooker and darts, Channel 4 for its exclusive horse racing coverage, and ESPN in the US for the Open Championship. It also enjoys a string of other important client relationships, most notably with Wimbledon, the R&A for the Open Golf Championship, the BCCI for IPL Cricket, FIFA, UEFA and the New York Road Runners (NY Marathon).

IMG produces Sport 24, the first ever-live global premium 24-hour sports channel for the airline and cruise industries, as well as other in-flight programming for over 50 airlines, and is also a partner with Associated Press for the sports news agency SNTV, and with the European Tour for European Tour Productions, the world's most prolific producer of golf programming.

The diploma course is 12 months full-time and is delivered at the NFTS and at IMG's state-of-the-art facility IMG Studios.
