Students on the NFTS’ Creative Business for Entrepreneurs and Executives diploma course are celebrating the successful launch of business ranging from a major B2B online news service in the Netherlands; a childrens’ edutainment games company, a unique film discovery app, a social network and marketing tool for athletes
and a lifestyle app and events company.

These include recent graduates Victoria Thomas and Jonathan Forbes have unveiled their new film discovery app, Cues, at the Cannes Film Festival, which is now available in beta on iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

Cues provides consumers with intelligent film recommendations, via trailers which remain the most influential factor in persuading audiences to see a film, and a simple way to purchase cinema tickets, trigger on demand screenings or purchase VOD / physical copies through familiar providers like iTunes and Amazon.

Jonathan who met business partner Victoria Thomas while on the course, says the CBEE course was instrumental in helping them launch their business: "One of the fundamental challenges to entrepreneurialism is isolation. The NFTS not only enabled us to find the team necessary to deliver a ground-breaking product, but also provided us the expertise and bridges to industry needed to see this come to life.”

While on the CBEE course, Sophie Alicia Shaw was inspired by industry professionals and tutors to developed Frissonic: A touring pop-up club night that creates a ‘collective frisson’ in an audience through collaboration with core members and guest artists.

This summer Frissonic will host its first two events based on the theme of The Otherworld, in London.

Sophie says: “With ‘lectures’ delivered at the headquarters of Ingenious (the investors of films such as Avatar and Life of Pi and music festivals such as Rewind – The 80s Festival and Love Supreme Jazz Festival). I was mentored by people such as Colin Nightingale (Senior Producer of Punchdrunk Theatre Company), Jamie Byng (MD of Canongate Books) big names from music, film and television and even Patrick McKenna (Founder of Ingenious) himself.”

Film producer Miranda Fleming, was appointed UK Head of Film at the U.S based crowd-funding platform Indiegogo shortly after graduating from the CBEE course. Since then she’s helped Director Nick Ryan (The Summit) to launch a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for his latest film,Six Days of the Rising, about the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland.

Miranda says: “I joined the CBEE course to learn about new models being used by entrepreneurs in the Creative Industries. The course way exceeded my expectations. Over the course of 8 months I was taught new and disruptive business models being applied by some of the most forward thinking entrepreneurs working in the UK.”

The course was only launched in 2012 but already many other graduates are in the process of setting up or developing their own companies, raising investment and taking executive positions.
