The NFTS’ Creative Business For Entrepreneurs and Executives diploma course (CBEE) has been lauded with praise from 200 of the UK’s leading figures from across publishing; theatre; television; film; computer games; music and online entertainment including Sir Richard Branson and Patrick McKenna, Chief Executive, Ingenious, the UK’s leading media investment firm.

Students on this unique 10-month business course have benefitted from 200 guests speakers since its launch in 2012. It gives entrepreneurs and executives all of the skills to design, test and launch their own business proposal or new ventures - across all of the media industries – and the networking contacts to build their business. Participants are introduced to major players within each sector; receive on-going one-to-one business coaching; practical sessions on the mechanics of business (pitching, presentation, marketing, branding, accountancy, legal and business affairs, management training); where appropriate can be introduced to investors; and leave with either a business proposal that can be taken to investors or a plan for a new venture within an existing business.

Course Sponsor Patrick McKenna, Chief Executive, Ingenious, says: “I am delighted to support this course. Building business capacity in the UK’s cultural and creative industries is vital to our future competitiveness.”

Sir Richard Branson is a course champion who says: “This course gives young entrepreneurs in the creative industries the compass to navigate their way across those domains, with practical knowledge and practical guidance. It’s about giving a new generation of ‘makers and doers’ the best possible chance to succeed and change their world. It’s about making smart young people confident they can do something new, and showing them ways to succeed. That’s why I think this new course is such a terrific idea.”

Other praise has come from Matthew Justice, Managing Director, Big Talk (award-winning TV and film producers of Rev, Attack The Block, The World’s End); Jonny Geller, Joint CEO, Curtis Brown literary and talent agency; Marc Marot, Chairman, Crown Talent and Media Group; James Seabright, award-winning independent theatre producer.

Alex Graham, Founder, Wall To Wall Television has been involved in the CBEE course since its inception. He says: “There is no shortage of creativity in the UK. There is, however, a shortage of the entrepreneurial skills necessary to build businesses of lasting value. The NFTS course aims to plug that gap. I just wish it had been around when I was starting out."

Rebecca Smart, Managing Director, Ebury Publishing has taught on the course for the past three years and says: “I firmly believe, that this programme delivers a terrific ‘joined-up’ approach to business training for the creative industry."
