The NFTS is delighted to welcome Sandra Hebron as the new Head of Screen Arts. She will also run the NEW Film Studies Programming & CurationMasters course, starting in 2016, which will be delivered in partnership with the British Film Institute (BFI).
Sandra began her working life in academia, researching and teaching cultural studies. She has extensive experience of programming films in a range of exhibition contexts, including as Cinemas Director at Manchester’s Cornerhouse, a three screen independent cinema and mixed arts venue, and as Head of Festivals/Artistic Director of the London Film Festival at the BFI. She has also programmed for several specialised festivals across the UK, ranging from genre based (crime and mystery) and national cinema oriented (Spain, US Independents) to audience/film-maker focused (women filmmakers; artists’ film and video).
Some of her key achievements at the BFI include transforming the London Film Festival from a national event into a festival of international significance, noted for its curatorial excellence. Since leaving the BFI, Sandra has gained new experience by programming for public and industry audiences internationally, most recently as a selection committee member for the Rome International Film Festival.
The NFTS' new Film Studies Programming and Curation Masters course includes a professional placement and attendance at the BFI London Film Festival.
