Two multi-award-winning NFTS Directing Documentary graduates - Kim Longinotto & Nick Broomfield - have films released in UK cinemas this week.
Kim Longinottos' documentary Dreamcatcher is about a woman on a mission to disrupt the cycle of neglect, violence, and exploitation endured by girls and women in inner-city Chicago.
The documentary, which won the Directing Award for World Cinema Documentary at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and includes NFTS graduate Sound Recordist Nina Rice and Composer Stuart Earl. Kim regularly visits the NFTS to as a tutor on the Directing Documentary MA course.
Nick Broomfield's controversial film Tales of the Grim Sleeper about a black American serial killer has been hitting the headlines, including this article in The Independent here... http://ind.pn/1vAUWoZ
The NFTS was delighted to welcome Nick back to the School for a Masterclass this year. Nick has previously won major BAFTA, Amsterdam, San Sebastian, Satellite and Sheffield film festival awards for Kurt & Courtney, Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer and Battle for Haditha.
Our alumni have also recently had films screened on Television including Mike Nicholls who directed Boy George and the Culture Club: Karma To Calamity, shown on BBC4.
And many of our post-production graduates work with on documentaries including feature documentary DISASTER PLAYGROUND, edited by NFTS graduate Alice Powell, which receives its world premiere at the SXSW Film festival in Austin, Texas on March 13th.
