Two NFTS Graduates' Films Make The Academy Awards Final 10 Shortlist

Best Live Action Short & Best Short Animation

The NFTS is delighted to announce that, for the first time in the School’s history, two films made by NFTS graduates have reached the final shortlist of 10 for consideration in the 2015 Academy Awards in the short film category.

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that ‘Boogaloo and Graham’, directed by 2012 Directing Fiction graduate Michael Lennox, is one of the 10 films selected for consideration for the Best Live-Action Short. They were chosen by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) short films and feature animation branch reviewing committee from 141 films that were submitted.

In addition, NFTS 2014 graduation film The Bigger Picture, directed by Daisy Jacobs, has made it onto the final shortlist of 10 films selected for consideration in the Best Short Animated Film category. http://bit.ly/11Qd14X

AMPAS branch members will now select three to five nominees from among the 10 titles on the shortlist and the nominations will be announced January 15th, 2015.

NFTS student films have previously been Nominated seven times for Oscars and have Won six Student Academy Awards.

Boogaloo and Graham, is set in 1970's Belfast and tells the story of two young boys who discover the facts of life aided by the help of their pet chickens.

The Bigger Picture is an innovative animated film (using life-sized painted characters in 3D environments) that tells the stark and darkly humorous tale of caring for an elderly parent. This film has swept up  22 awards + 1 special mention at international film festivals, including Hiroshima where it qualified for Oscars consideration.
