Another star student on the NFTS’ Factual Development & Production diploma course has been snapped up by a major broadcaster – before she’s even graduated!
Claudia Hodes hadn’t previously worked in factual television but within a few months of starting the 12 month part time NFTS course she was given work at the acclaimed production company Oxford Film & Television, in London, and has now been selected for the Channel 4 training scheme.
Despite competition from thousands of applicants, Claudia, 22, has secured a place on Channel 4’s prestigious Production Training Scheme, which includes a year’s paid placement with one of the country’s most exciting and stand out indies, The Garden. As part of the initiative she has access to a mentor and monthly training at Channel 4.

The NFTS Factual Development & Production courseis delivered in partnership with Discovery Networks International who make the popular TV shows Wheeler Dealersand Marooned with Ed Stafford. Many of their senior executives provide masterclass talks, including Dan Korn - SVP & Head of Programming, Discovery Networks Western Europe (Naked And Marooned for Discovery Channel and Nuremberg: Goering’s Last Stand for Channel 4 and Discovery Channel).
Claudia says: “None of this would have been possible without the knowledge I gained on the NFTS diploma course with Discovery Networks International - and the support of the course leader Simon Broadley and Head of Short Courses Nina Bhagwat. They have all been brilliant.
“Having studied anthropology for my first degree, the diploma at NFTS was a great way of obtaining an overview of the UK television industry. The diploma included sessions with some of the most influential people currently working in the industry. We met commissioners, executive producers and directors, and heard their perspectives on the TV industry and learnt about their role within it.
“The course covers a wide array of topics that are all crucially important when working in the TV industry. I wholly recommend the course – and I’m very excited to be joining the Channel 4 scheme and working with The Garden, whose programmes I love.”
Training on this part-time course takes place at Discovery’s London HQ and the company offers 4 x £5,000 Discovery scholarships to stand out talented applicants.
Claudia’s success comes hot on the heels of fellow student Zora Kuettner who – half way through the course -has secured a place on the BBC's new Central Development Team headed up by Ana De Moraes (formerly Twenty Twenty Productions) who made her name by launching Gareth Malone in BBC 2’s The Choir.
