NFTS 2014 graduation film Manila Dreaming directed by San San F. Young has won the Best Student Documentary at the prestigious One World Media Awards, in London. It is the School’s second win in four years in this competition.
Manila Dreaming is a coming of age story about four boys who were wrongly imprisoned in the Philippines; children jailed for crimes ranging from loitering to murder.
The annual One World Media Awards is one of the foremost awards events in the UK. It rewards the most outstanding coverage of the developing world and recognises the unique role of journalists and filmmakers in increasing cultural understanding and promoting fairness and justice worldwide. Now in their 26th year, the One World Media Awards have a long track record of rewarding excellence in media coverage of the developing world. And the NFTS graduation film Beach Boy directed by Emil Langballe continues its run of success at international festivals by winning an Honourable Mention for Best Short Documentary from HotDocs, the Canadian International Documentary Festival.
The film has already won Best Documentary awards at Tampere and Karlovy Vary IFF and an Audience Award in Thessaloniki. Well done to the NFTS teams!
