NFTS 2014 graduation film Manila Dreaming directed by San San F. Young has won the Best Student Documentary at the prestigious One World Media Awards, in London. It is the School’s second win in four years in this competition.

Manila Dreaming is a coming of age story about four boys who were wrongly imprisoned in the Philippines; children jailed for crimes ranging from loitering to murder.

The annual One World Media Awards is one of the foremost awards events in the UK. It rewards the most outstanding coverage of the developing world and recognises the unique role of journalists and filmmakers in increasing cultural understanding and promoting fairness and justice worldwide. Now in their 26th year, the One World Media Awards have a long track record of rewarding excellence in media coverage of the developing world. They highlight the unique role of journalists, filmmakers and broadcasters in increasing cultural understanding and promoting fairness and justice worldwide.

“The winning entries remind us that we all share a common humanity, regardless of the lottery of where we are born. It’s essential to recognize the journalists, broadcasters and filmmakers who help us fully understand what is going on in the world and how our lives are all interconnected,” said Clothilde Redfern, Director of One World Media.
