NFTS alumni have won prestigious accolades in documentary and editing categories at this year’s RTS Craft and Design Awards, which took place on Monday 28th November! The RTS Craft & Design Awards recognise the huge variety of skills and processes involved in programme production from editing to lighting, and costume design to digital effects.
Congratulations to Directing Documentary grad, Morag Tinto who won the ‘Photography - Documentary/Factual and Non-Drama’ category for her work on the BBC documentary Imagine…Antony Gormley: Being Human.
“The photography interacted beautifully with its subject matter, providing real insight and emotional resonance in capturing Antony Gormley’s installations on screen. It also found provocative stimulating ways of exploring the relationship of his art to its surroundings and, especially poignantly, the general public.”
No fewer than three NFTS editing graduates, Simon Sykes, Nick Fenton and Sunshine Jackson, were awarded for their work on the BBC2 series Exodus: Our Journey to Europe. They received the top prize in the ‘Editing - Documentary/Factual’ category.
“The Jury was particularly impressed with how the editors had tackled this complicated narrative structure, successfully stitching together material from multiple sources in a way that allowed the refugees to tell their own stories in their own words.”
Nine NFTS alumni were named on the list of nominations for this year’s awards in total and included:
Cinematography alumnus, Stuart Biddlecombe was nominated for the ‘Photography - Documentary/Factual and Non-Drama’ category for his work as DoP on the S4C/BBC Wales series Hinterland; and four alumni, Billy Quinn, Martin Jensen, Duncan Price and Alex Ellerington, were all nominated in the ‘Sound – Drama’ category for their work on the BBC1 drama series River.
If you are inspired by this and would like to apply to the NFTS, we have a number of courses with places available to start in January 2017. These include a Diploma in Cameras, Sound and Vision Mixing for Television Production, a Masters in Digital Effects and Film Studies, Programming and Curation.
