Four NFTS films selected for Encounters

The UK’s leading short film and animation festival

The National Film and Television School is proud to announce that four student films have been selected for the Oscar qualifying Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival, which takes place between the 20th and 25th September 2016 in Bristol.

Selected films include:

Fiction, Ferris & The Fancy Pigeon (World Premiere) is directed by James Gardner and produced by Hélène Sifre:

When Ferris, a teenage boy with a passion for fancy pigeons, leaves school, his father finds him a job at the local factory. Ferris goes along with his father’s plan until the day the school bully he thought he’d left behind confronts him. Ferris abandons his post and the punishment his father exercises forces Ferris to finally face up to some difficult home truths.

Fiction, Sweet Maddie Stone (UK premiere) is directed by Brady Hood, produced by Jake Riley-Hunte and co-written by Jessica Jackson:

15-year-old Maddie Stone rules her school yard under the protection of her family name.  But after discovering her notorious father has been arrested, she has to make his bail money or lose the yard. The more Maddie fights, the more her world spirals out of control – and the closer she gets to becoming the man she’s trying to save.

Fiction,The Proposal (World Premiere) is directed by Ian Robertson and produced by Ragnheiður Erlingsdóttir.

The Proposal is a romantic comedy about a couple finding truth, courage and love where they least expected it, underneath their dinner table.

Animation, The Wrong End of The Stick is directed by Terri Matthews, produced by Sam Bank and co-written by Chris Cornwell:

Malcolm Fetcher, a neurotic, middle-aged teacher, is lost in a dull marriage to his wife of twenty years, Beverley. As he faces an all-consuming identity crisis, his marriage starts disintegrating, and he’s forced to express a deep, hidden desire…
