Visual and Special Effects producer Kate Walshe has soared to success since graduating from the NFTS. She is a part owner of Millennium FX - one of the leading prosthetics and creature-effects companies in Europe - where her work spans film, television and commercials.
Her credits include creating creatures for The Wolfman, comedy projects such as The Catherine Tate Show, music videos, commericals for Cadbury's and Playstation, as well as the popular BBC TV series Doctor Who for which she makes many of the monsters, including this year's Christmas special. Her most recent film work can be seen in the forthcoming horror film Victor Frankenstein starring Daniel Radcliffe and James McEvoy.
"We have been biting our nails waiting for it to come out. The script is such good fun; it's an absolutely brilliant cast, the set is insane and the work we did was fantastic," says Kate.
Despite advancing technology and the increasing use of CGI to create digital monsters, Kate believes there is room for both crafts to work side by side: "There is a risk you get involved in a project and offer to build physical monsters and prosthetics and they will pull out half way through and it will go digital," says Kate, "but it doesn't really happen. At the moment trends are for physical effects and often we end up working alongside the VFX department to come with solutions that are best for the audience."
Kate is just one of the many successful graduates from the NFTS Masters in Digital Effects. 95% of our graduates are currrently working in the film and television industry and regularly have credits on award-winning films. Nine DFX graduates have credits on the recent box office hit films Everest and The Martian.
