ODEON and the NFTS have teamed up to launch a new short film festival to showcase the next generation of talented filmmakers.
On Tuesday October 6th (2015), the ODEON/NFTS “Big Shorts” Film Festival will screen a selection of eight NFTS students’ short films, all of which have won or been nominated for BAFTAs, Oscars and other major awards. The live action, documentary and animation films will be simultaneously screened in 57 ODEON cinemas across the country at 8.30pm. (see full list of films and locations below]
This is the first time that these films have been shown to the general public and ODEON is the only major European cinema chain to support new filmmakers in this way.
Ian Shepherd, Chief Commercial Officer of ODEON & UCI Cinemas Group said the aim of the festival was to introduce ODEON’s guests to the next generation of award-winning film makers: “We are proud to be supporting the NFTS – a global leader in developing film talent - and delighted that we can offer our guests the opportunity to enjoy the stunning early work of these talented filmmakers. We expect to be showing their future work in our cinemas for decades to come, and celebrating as they win more awards, so we’re very honoured to give their award-winning short films their first big screen exposure across the UK. We are sure that our guests will embrace this chance to view previously unseen films and discover future renowned filmmakers at the very start of their careers, before they become famous.”
Nik Powell, NFTS Director, said: “We are excited to be launching this new film festival with ODEON whose long-established brand is synonymous with British cinema. No other film school in the UK is able to offer students the chance to see their films screened in 57 major cinemas. It is a resounding endorsement of our students’ talent and an unprecedented opportunity for our films to reach new audiences.”
The festival is part of a new partnership between the NFTS and ODEON, which has become the School’s first platinum cinema sponsor. ODEON will work with the school’s Board, tutors and students to support the school in a wide variety of new initiatives including the creation of a new annual student scholarship.
Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday September 22nd, 2015, on the ODEON website.
