NFTS TV Entertainment graduate Ian Aryeh-Thompson has directed a new EE hit series 'The Wembley Cup’ exclusively online on YouTube.
The 10-part football/ comedy/ documentary series, launched by EE on July 18, has already received more than 7 million views for the first 8 episodes.
The series was created in partnership with popular YouTube star Spencer Owen, commissioned & sponsored by EE, working in collaboration with Wembley Stadium and The Football Association and produced by Hoi Polloi Media.
The series documents Spencer’s journey as he brings 28 of the biggest football-obsessed online personalities together to fulfil their dream of playing on Wembley Stadium’s iconic pitch.
The Wembley Cup web series can be viewed on EE’s own website, ee.co.uk/wembleycup, and on Spencer FC’s YouTube channel, which has over 700k subscribers. The first nine episodes will focus on Spencer’s ‘road to Wembley’ journey as he builds a team of fellow YouTube stars to take on rival web personality Miniminter (2.5m subscribers) and his Sidemen United team – composed of other football-loving YouTube personalities – in an epic Wembley showdown screened on August 8th.
Ian Aryeh-Thompson worked on the series with Pete Shuttleworth, Executive Producer at Hoi Polloi Media who praised the director saying: “Ian has got under the skin of very specific football-mad online gaming community and has sought to fuse their accepted narrative structures with more traditional storytelling. He has worked tirelessly with the production team and with the edit team to create a unique series in the online history of programming development.”
