NFTS Welcomes DCMS Secretary of State Sajid Javid

The NFTS was delighted to welcome Sajid Javid The Secretary of State for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) who met students during a tour of the School with the director Nik Powell and Stephen Louis, vice-chair of the NFTS Board of Governors

During the tour of the School, he viewed some of the students' award-winning films, TV productions and video Games. We were able to share with the Secretary of State the fantastic week of awards for the NFTS. The Hollywood Reporter announced that the 2014 animation graduation film The Bigger Picture has reached the top ten shortlist of films that will now be considered for Academy Awards nomination. In addition, a 1st year film Slap has been nominated for a British Independent Film Award (BIFA) and NFTS graduate Yann Demange's feature film '71 has received more BIFA nominations than any other film. And an NFTS Documentary graduate has won the prestigious Grierson Award for Best Student Film (for the 3rd year running) plus a recent graduate won the Best Newcomer Award for a TV documentary broadcast on Channel 4 The Last Chance School.

The DCMS has awarded £5m capital funding to the NFTS for the School's new Digital Village phase II. This funding will help expand and upgrade NFTS's existing facility into a word-class creative and digital skills centre of excellence and support the UK's creative industries.

Secretary of State Sajid Javid has had a successful career in banking at Chase Manhatten Bank and Deutsche Bank where he was managing director, then global head of Emerging Markets Structuring and later a Board Member.
