NFTS Head of Digital FX, John Rowe is giving a talk on 'Inside the DFX Industry' on Saturday October 11, at 10:30 AM-12:15 PM NFT2, BFI Southbank, London. Tickets are FREE.
He will be giving inspiring and detailed insight into the Digital FX industry, as part of the London Film Festival's Education Programme.

This event is designed for film students age 18+ and looks at the core skillsets of compositing, colour and CG 3D - how teaching them is linked to industry best practice and the industry itself. This will be followed by a screening of Leonard In Slow Motion (2014, Dir. Peter Livolsi) and a breakdown of the FX work, showcasing the entire process from Storyboard, Onset to Final Visual Effects, presented by VFX Supervisor Hugo Guerra, who will also discuss the teamwork between film-makers and students.
NFTS graduates from the Digital Effects MA course have an incredible 44 credits on 32 new and forthcoming feature films and TV productions.
Our graduates are working as Compositors, Colourists, VFX Artists and Special Effects Technicians on some of the world’s biggest tent pole productions, as well as independent films. This includes four of the main Gala films and two films in competitionat this year’s BFI London Film Festival.
NFTS DFX graduate Roni Rodrigues was a Digital Compositor on LFF Opening Gala film The Imitation Game (pictured above - starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Kiera Knightly) and NFTS DFX graduate and visiting tutor Andy Quinn was a Digital Compositor on Mr Turner (starring Timothy Spall) and A Little Chaos (Directed by and starring Alan Rickman and Kate Winslet) - on which fellow NFTS tutor Peter Kersey also worked as Special Effects Supervisor.
The prolific Andy Quinn also worked on two films in Official Competition (The Falling) and First feature Competition (Theeb) as well as feature X+Y.
NFTS graduate Ram Tripathi Samaveda was the colourist on the documentary OXI: An Act of Resistance in the LFF Experimenta programme.
